This is a blog by social activists for social activism in its many forms.
The world is a scary place right now. We, in the United States, are watching our democracy being dismantled brick by brick by a wanna-be dictator. Where I sit right now, in Southwestern Pennsylvania, the high temperature predicted for today is 90 degrees Fahrenheit. 90 degrees on the first of October! That’s unheard of in this area! Torrential rainfall is causing massive flooding all over the world. There is yet another Category 5 hurricane in the Caribbean.
There are children in cages at our southern border. People are hungry while millions of pounds of food go to waste. The poor get poorer, while the 1% get richer. The evangelical right is trying to spread government by theocracy all over the world, but especially in the U.S.
The Amazon is burning. Brexit is coming to Great Britain. Russia is messing with the world. The Roman Catholic Church is still refusing to ordain women. Fascism is on the rise. The world, as the saying goes, is going to Hell in a hand basket.
What can we do to stop the chaos? Social activism. The power of protest in the hands of the people can do wonders. Pressure on government leaders, corporations, law enforcement and the church can change the course of history which might otherwise be inevitable.
That’s what this blog is all about. It is the voice of the Peace and Social Justice Circle of the Association of Roman Catholic WomenPriests. Yes, we are a thing. The title of the blog comes from 1 Corinthians 13:1. « Though I speak with the tongues of humans and angels, and I have not love, I am but a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. ». What you will read in this blog is a voice on the issues of the day, a clanging cymbal but with love, a voice calling to get the attention of those who have the power to change things…We, the People.
We, the Association of Roman Catholic WomenPriests, and our sister organization, Roman Catholic WomenPriests, Inc. have a call to change the world for the better. The main way we do this by ordaining women to the priesthood. We, as priests, are called to minister to the people in whatever way the Spirit wants to use us. This blog is one of those ways.
Welcome to our blog. May our writings inspire you to become active in your communities in some way. Together we can change the world.
